How to initiate a mediation

To begin a mediation, the following two initial steps are helpful:

1 Prepare a “one page” summary of the issues in dispute from your perspective;

2 it will help a lot if you let the other people involved know that you want to begin a mediation.

At an early stage you will be asked to provide your residential addresses, sample utility bills and copies of ID or driver's licences or passports for FICA compliance purposes.

Then contact me on either +27 82 3764447 or john@mediatorlaw.com to arrange a short meeting either in person or via Zoom to explain how mediation works.

I will have similar meeting/s with the other people involved;

If appropriate a joint meeting and / or further separate meetings will then be arranged;

Throughout the process you are free to consult your own attorney for legal advice;

Much of the early work in a mediation is about gathering and understanding the information relevant to the dispute;

Once all the relevant information is available, we will then speak about generating options which might work for you in resolving the dispute;

Towards the end of the process if it is appropriate a draft agreement or summary of acceptable outcomes will be prepared.
