To begin a mediation, the following two initial steps are helpful:
1 Prepare a “one page” summary of the issues in dispute from your perspective;
2 It will help if you lask the other people involved in the dispute to agree upfront to bring the dispute to mediation.
3 Then contact me on either +27 82 3764447 or john@mediatorlaw.com to arrange a short meeting either in person or via Zoom to explain how mediation works.
4 I will have similar meeting/s with the other people involved;
5 If appropriate a joint meeting and / or further separate meetings will then be arranged;
Throughout the process you are free to consult your own attorney for legal advice;
Much of the early work in a mediation is about gathering and understanding the information relevant to the dispute;
Once all the relevant information is available, we will then speak about generating options for resolving the dispute which might meet your needs and those of the other people involved;
6 Towards the end of the process if it is appropriate a draft agreement or summary of mutually acceptable outcomes will be prepared.
